Estate Planning involves making preparations for how your assets (commonly referred to as estate when it comes to succession) will be disposed.

The different modes of estate planning include;

• • Trusts: A person seeking to plan succession for his or her family can opt for a family trust which can either be living or testamentary. Trusts are designed to provide flexibility, control, and privacy when it comes to managing assets, avoiding probate, and ensuring a smooth transition.

• • Wills: A will is a legal document that outlines how a person’s assets should be distributed after their death. It allows the individual (the testator) to specify their wishes regarding the division of their estate, including any specific gifts to family members, friends, charities, guardianship of children etc.

• • Family Companies : Family companies can be an effective mode of succession planning. They ensure that the company’s vision, and operational knowledge are preserved while also providing continuity and stability for the next generation.

  • Power of Attorney: A Power of Attorney (POA) is a legal document that allows you to designate power to someone else to make decisions on your behalf when you’re unable to do so yourself.
